PMC and a New Work Space

I hope everyone has had a great January so far!
This past week I had my first experience working on Silver PMC, Precious Metal Clay.
To me it's a combination of pottery clay, paper clay and polymer clay because it is sticky and needs to air dry, it can be formed and stamped and baked but it takes a much higher temperature to cure, were talkin' kiln here.
I made myself a dog tag and it was a lot of fun! I really liked that you can play with the color of the silver with chemicals.
Also-This week I decided that I would take over one more place in the house to work privately.
The space I work in now is great but I share it with everyone including our three dogs. If you search my blog you will see exactly what my work space looks like. Its very IKEA.
The new space is quite small but it has a large window for natural light and a door that I can close and work uninterrupted(or so I tell myself). Since the room will be only inhabited by myself I am going to put some of my Fractured Fairytale touches into it.
Some dingy color on the walls, artwork, a handful of crystals, a stack of old books, some tarnished silver and colors and textures that inspire me.
As a challenge to myself( and my budget) the majority of this will be put together from discount stores, flea market and thrift store finds.
Here are some of the finds from my first trip

I will keep you posted as the room progresses and of my next projects.
Have a great weekend!!

Cool finds and they will add so much atmosphere to your new workspace! I LOVE thrifting - you never know just what you will find.

Your dogtag is really cool. So PMC has to be kiln fired? I find it intriguing but not if you need a kiln for it.

Keep us posted on your developing
workroom.

Oh I just love thrift store hunting and your right, you just never know what you might find!! I am excited for you to have a NEW space!! ( and a little jelous too ) It is hard to believe that in a 3 bedroom house with a finished basement, sharing this house with only one other human, 2 BIG dogs and 3 cats that there is only ONE TINY room for ME:( Oh and a kitchen table...lol
I am also curious about the silver clay, I didn't know though you need a kiln to cure it:( I guess I will find out about it through you:) Your dog tad you made is lovely and so are all your wonderful findings!!
I can't wait to see your new space!!! Congrats to you and I hope your dooor has a lock on it!! LOL

Thanks Sue! Thanks Jacqui! I love thrifting, its like a treasure hunt for me. And I'm glad I can share my projects with you guys!

I'm glad I got to experience the PMC class without having to buy everything.

It is a VERY VERY expensive hobby that I don't think I can invest in right now. The kiln alone, that we were using, was at least $1000, and its not even a big one. You also need the machine to tumble it, a small torch, the liquid to give it its color variation, and the silver clay which is very expensive too.
And then there are all of the cutters and stamps and such-too much $$ for me.

I will try cold metal techniques next-its a whole lot less expensive!

BYe for now!
