New Project!

Hi everyone, a big WELCOME and THANK YOU to all of my new students for joining me for the next 3 weeks in our Flapper class! Well, summer is almost here and I have started work on a small new project. This one will be geared towards the little ones but I hope adults will love it too! I am working on some scenes or vignettes for the new project and will be sharing some of the process photos as I go along.
I love paper mache and especially mushrooms so this was a fun way to get to work on both at once.
These are just very basic hand made foil, wire and paper tape mushrooms then painted in acrylic colors. I am making the grass from decorative materials I found and some of the flowers will be paper crepe. So here is the start of it all.

Tons to go before I can get it the way I want it but its a start. Well, I hope you all have a great weekend, have some fun and create something that will make you or someone else smile!!

Hugs,
Rosanna

The Night Fairy is now in my Etsy Shop!

Here is my Night Fairy completed.
She is pale like the moon and cloaks herself in the night sky. She glides through the veil of night watching over all creations of the night. As she passes over the world with her dream catcher in hand she sets out to make the dark a little less frightening for the rest of us.

Her head, hands and legs are sculpted out of paperclay over wire armature and cloth body. She stands approx. 17 inches tall, 18 inches with black base and 20 inches with wings.
She has porcelain white skin with light blushing and several eye shadow colors. Her hair is short dark green with multi color feathers in her hair. Her costume is made up of 2 toned indigo silk and black silk chiffon with a black beaded bodice with the tiniest miniature stars scattered throughout. She has layers and layers of green and black feathers with flaming orange feathers on top and several purple and blue feather details throughout. She has paisley blue green and gold pantaloons under her skirt and sculpted black legs. Her wings are painted silk permanently attached to her armature and they, as well as the dolls arms, are gently posable.
She holds a dream catcher that is made from a vintage crochet piece with glass beads sewed on and adorned with silk pieces. She is permanently affixed to a black round base. Please visit my Etsy store for purchase details.

Thank you and have a great weekend!
Rosanna

Fairy Baby listed today!

Here is the listing I wrote about yesterday.

One of a kind Teal blue fairy/pixie baby with pale skin and white hair.

This is an approx. 6 inch one of a kind art doll. The head is hand sculpted from a blend of polymer clays then baked over an armature. It is then painted with oil paints and acrylic washes to give it a natural muddied very fair baby skin tone. Hand dyed tibetan lambs wool is then applied lock by lock for the hair. The body is soft cotton that has been weighted and swathed in different layers of cotton and gauze that I have hand dyed. The baby wears Teal and is adorned with feathers, a sea shell, natural fibers and twine.

OPTION:If you would like the baby to be a girl please specify and I will be happy to add flowers and Swarovski crystals on the side of the head.

OWOH 2011 is HERE!!

Hi everyone and welcome to my blog. My name is Rosanna Pereyra and I am an artist and art doll maker. I live in sunny South Florida with my hubby and kids as well as two pugs and a nutty german shepherd. I am so happy that you decided to visit my blog for the final OWOH event!

The One World One Heart event is a great way to meet & greet bloggers from all over! There is a bonus for visiting each participant, a gift or door prize for one winner! All you have to do is have an active blogging account, leave a comment & you'll have the opportunity to win my one of a kind pixie fairy art doll.
The winner will be chosen through an online random number generator on February 17th.

My gift to you is a 5.5 inch one of a kind art doll. I only create these dolls for very special occasions such as this. The head is hand sculpted from a blend of polymer clays then baked over an armature. It is then painted with oil paints and acrylic washes to give it a natural muddied baby skin tone. Hand dyed tibetan lambs wool is then applied lock by lock for the hair. The body is soft cotton that has been weighted and swathed in different layers of cotton and gauze that I have dyed. The doll is not removable from the blanket. It can be displayed as is or hung from its blue cord from a hook or a little branch.
It will arrive with its certificate.
*The winner can request that little flowers be added onto the side of the head to make it look like a little girl.

Have a look around, stay a while and thank you again for visiting me.
I hope you come back often.
Good Luck and God Bless,
Rosanna Pereyra

Hi again! I hope everyone is doing great, I was working on the kids back to school shopping when a friend asked me some background info on the works I just did for Peculiar Playmates and I realized I didn't add any info and so I would like to apologize for that.I get caught up in the process and then the pictures and forget that you can't read my mind.
This is a long post but here it goes...

The girls I make are in that moment in time when we are still innocent but are aware of the dangers of life. They still want to believe in fairytales, true love and happy endings. They see the reality of everything around them a little bit different than others do. They are always thinking and dreaming.
They believe in "magic" or the supernatural, they have a sense of humor, a moral compass, but they are still learning and falter at times!
Often alone because they are this way, they choose to care for things that maybe others wouldn't value.

Nina sees a life growing inside of the egg, it is the symbol for the universe and creation, she knows what she holds in her hands is precious, so she treats it that way. Her little hat represents a halo for her good intentions, and her blue dress represents the heavens, she is bare foot because she wants to be well grounded and connected to the earth.

Veronica has a dilemma, a common one, she has grown to care for her little snails but her curiosity for the "fruits of knowledge" is quite strong. She has a book for cooking escargot(sorry I didn't photograph it well, but she has it) and as a student of life she wonders if its worth it. Could she bring herself to sacrifice one of them in her quest for knowledge and experience. (snails represent eternity and labyrinths her laced up green ribbons are doubt)

Lila is the one with the cephalopod on her head (they represent cleverness). She wears the colors of innocence and appears to be playing a child's game of tea party, but by the style of the clothing you can see that she is changing, no longer a child. She is eager to know what comes next and is reading her tea leaves as well as Cely's to maybe catch a glimpse of what the future holds.

Maggie is the archetypal nurturing good mother and sacrificing soul. She is all in white representing purity, and silk for strength, her pink sash is her "cord" connecting her to this world. She holds her delicate babies on a silk string so she can carry and protect them until they are ready to enter this world. She stands very still and allows them to practice walking on her and spreading their wings until they are ready for flight. She wears a fur shawl to cover them from the harsh weather and hide them from danger. Her silk dress spun from the cocoons that they have discarded and left behind to remind them that she is a part of them and they can always come home. She treasures them

Agatha and Buzzy are what they are, creepy cute and funny!!
Agatha is that little mischievous child, that wants what she wants, when she wants it is NOW!!!
Buzzy was once a feared, scavenger and hunter, but she has been worn down by this child to the point that she allows herself to be dressed up in ribbons and bows and taken on walks on a tiny string leash which she could easily rip apart with her beak, but ughh, why bother!!
Buzzy's feathers represent TRUTH, truth is, I know at certain times in my life i have been each of these characters, Maybe you have been too??
hope you enjoyed the insight!!
-Rosanna
BTW-Here's an article on NBC Miami featuring a picture of a little pixie I made named
Rosemary Jane!
