Hurricane Season is Here! AND my clay sucks!!

Hi everyone.  Hurricane season is here again and that means HOT, HOT, HOT muggy days with tons of rain. I feel so bad for all of the tourists that come to south Florida and find out that this is our rainy season.  I love the storms but I prefer them at night. 

 

I will be at Bear and Bird this weekend making Teddies, I look forward to that.  I LOVE miniatures and too many other things to mention (or find the time for) but this is what I was working on in the mean time.

Sorry but in this next paragraph I will be complaining: 

I was so happy that I had sculpted 5 dolls, just the way I wanted!! I ever so gently put them in the oven for 20 minutes and to my horror, when the timer rang, every single one of them was BURNED!!! My settings are never touched and my thermostat was perfect so I knew this was the clay. This is of course my fault for not testing my batches of P**sculpt. I have received bad batches in the past that came out burned and thrown them away but I didn't test this last batch. I think I am done with this clay for a while.  Now to begin all over again. Anyway, I feel better now that I got that off my chest-thanks for letting me vent.

BJD's and more

I'm working on a couple of different things. I love Ball Jointed Dolls (bjd's) but they are so pricey that I only have one, and its a bobobi sprite, (only $150). I would rather make my own.  

Here's a look at a face up I did on a cheap plastic head just for practice and a leg that I worked on. I use dowels and wooden balls, sometimes I use styrofoam and wire, They are then placed in my doll cemetery where they serve as anatomical studies or reference.  I figure one day I will make a complete one but for now just spare parts.  

                              

                              

      

                        

I used white sculpey for this demo leg and acrylic paint and pastels for the face up.

I cant believe its been a month!!

Wow, a month has passed since I wrote blogged.  I have been so busy that I haven't had a chance to visit with my blog friends here. I hope everyone had a wonderful Mothers Day, I sure did.

 I had all the great ladies in my life with me-Mom, Grandma, Sis, daughter and a family friend that is just as great as a grandma. The guys were all there too-even you Uncle Tio!!

We ate like Uruguayans!! Meat, meat, and sweets!! The theme must have been slightly nautical, welcoming the changing seasons, because all the ladies wore blue.  

We finally welcomed the first rains that were so desperately needed!! Everything is beginning to bloom again.  I have been hard at work on a big project for October and I will be teaching a tiny stuffed teddy class this summer.  

I also made it onto Artful Blogging 2009 Summer Edition thanks to Lisa's One World One Heart (OWOH) event.

Bear and Bird and Steampunk

I had a great time at the opening of the Me Me Me show at Bear and Bird Gallery. A local reporter wrote this small piece about the gallery show and I was so honored that my work was called beautiful and that among 150+ artists I was mentioned. Also I want to thank Amanda for being so nice to me and my hubby. She really was the hostess with the mostess, she was awesome as she greeted everyone of us, chatted and snapped pics while the large crowds moved around her.  

She has invited me to participate in a workshop this summer.  I will keep you all posted. 

On to another topic

This is what I do when stuff breaks in my house. I have had this broken camera in a storage box and I wanted to see what the inside looked like so I took it apart. I was amazed by all of the gears, it looks so steampunk!!  For those of you that don't know what Steampunk means, its a merge of victorian, sci-fi, fantasy and technology. If I had the knowledge or skill, all my gear (electronics) would be done in a steampunk style.

 This is a great example of steampunk!

I apologize to any of you that I haven't been able to answer back. I've been working on several projects at once for some future shows so I haven't been able to visit my online friends very much.  

Big Hugs to all my pals at ADO, here's my Creepy Cute Ophelia. This is my interpretation or vision of Ophelia after she was found dead in the shallow water among the flowers she licked to pick. She was placed gently on a hollow log until it was decided what would be done with her, was this a suicide over heartbreak or had she slipped and fallen to her death??

Me Me Me Art Show!

Hi everyone, just wanted to share the piece I finished for the Me Me Me Show at the Bear and Bird Gallery. I hope alot of you will attend, this is a great way to meet some amazing artists and to buy some great art! I love this gallery, they always have great stuff happening.

The above picture is poor quality so I will have a better one soon but you get the idea. 

This next pic is Ophelia for the ADO challenge and she is almost done. I need to wig her and add the details to her shoes and the log.
